Coin for a Thought

                   Coin for a Thought

The 13th of December was our last GNCT session for the 1st year. Like all other days of GNCT, we had an interesting session. First, Miss.Sarasi collected a coin from each of us and all the coins were put in to a purse. Then the purse was rotated through the class and the moment where Miss.Sarasi tapped the table, the person with the purse had to take a coin out and he had to speak about the memories he had related to the year of the coin.

The session was going awesome as this was totally impromptu and our colleagues were bringing out some funny and interesting things happened to them in the respective years. When I got the chance to speak, the coin I got was a 2/-  coin which was released in 2006. So, here is the story which I related to the class, the story of how I survived Death.

It was the month of December in 2006, and it was a rainy season. One Sunday morning I was playing in the garden and suddenly I got the idea of overseeing the well because I knew that the well would have filled with water because of the rain.

When I peeped through the well,  an idea suddenly got struck in my mind, "What if I touch the water of the well from my little feet? Then it would be my super hero story in the school". So I started gliding through the rope of the well until my foot touched the water and which I managed to do without any difficulty. But suddenly matters got out of hand and I started slipping through the rope until water was in to my chest level.

Luckily I managed to hold the rope with my left hand and my right hand was holding the iron pipe which was connected to the motor. Then I started shouting "බේරගනියෝ!! බේරගනියෝ!!" so loud. Luckily my sister was playing in the garden and she came running to save my life. She managed to take me out from the jaws of death after scolding me for  putting myself inside the well.
The day ended after sharing our memories with each other.

Culture

                                                    Culture
On 6th of December was a very special day. The reason for that is during that day in GNCT lecture we had a different experience that we never faced. First of all we were divided into two groups and lecture explained the scenario. The title that was given to this scenario was culture. The scenario was each team had to create their own culture which includes customs, language, songs, dance etc. Also that should be unique to each team.

Our group planned of a cultural activity with a wedding scenario, which happened according to our own traditions and customs. We had our own dress, our own ways of conducting the wedding. We had to do this activity as a drama and we were given 20 minutes to prepare. Finally we came up with a drama which was depicting all the conditions we were given and after the feedback given by the lecture only we realized that we could have improved  more.

This activity helped us to identify the various aspects of a culture, how to deal with them and the uniqueness of a culture. This helped us in being sensitive towards other cultures.

Alibaba, a sprawling and murkily understood digital conglomerate built around e-commerce, has made Jack Ma one of the richest men in China, with a fortune valued at nearly $30 billion. And that success has rocketed him to prominence as arguably the first Chinese executive who’s an easily recognizable figure on the global stag

What’s more, Ma is using his new platform in unexpected, invigorating ways, positioning himself as a champion of both free trade and philanthropy—and arguing that open digital marketplaces like Alibaba’s can power the world’s economy by enabling small businesses to reach an ever-expanding pool of customers. That’s the premise that emboldened Ma to promise then-President-elect Donald Trump during a sit-down in January that Alibaba would help create 1 million jobs in the U.S. over five years.

To realize his vision, Ma has urged the lowering of trade barriers while proving to be a surprisingly warm, optimistic, and effective diplomat on behalf of capitalism—one known to disarm visitors by greeting them wearing sandals and Buddhist prayer beads.
